Did you know that anything that takes the place of your full focus of God is idolizing? “An Idol is anything that takes the place of God in our lives. Examples of Modern Idols include the Idol of ARROGANCE & PRIDE ; The Idol of MATERIALISM & GREED; and The Idol of ANGER & BITTERNESS.”
But, did you know an Idol can also be a man? Many of us idolize celebrities, professors, mentors, Doctors, Psychologists, therapists, life coaches, psychics, parents, associations, greek sororities and fraternities, and last but not least, MEN!
Overly focusing on a man, and giving him all of your energy and time is worshiping him whether you believe it or not. Anything that you put first in your life, from your inner desires, material obsessions to the people your adore, is a form of having idols. This may be a hard pill to swallow and you may be in denial. I’m sure if this applies to you, you are in denial. I bet you are saying to yourself, “i’m not religious, so this doesn’t apply to me”. You may even be unsure in your faith, but justifying your actions won’t help you because this applies to anyone putting anything before the creator. It does not matter how religious or spiritual you classify yourself. It does not matter if you are of a different faith. What matters is that you put nothing before the divine creator. What you focus on grows and whatever you obsess over becomes your God. Men are no different. They are not exempt. Let’s have a real chat, ladies.
As women, we are born to nurture. Society conditions us to believe we are to nurture everybody and everything. We have a “Captain Save a Whore” attitude. We secretly believe we are the best thing that happened to every man we meet and that we were sent from the heavens above to save and help every man we encounter. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Although the bible states that a woman is a man’s helper fit for him, this applies to your divine partner, not worldly entanglements. Women believe every man she meets is special and they get wrapped up in their feelings and begin overly extend themselves.
Without realizing it, women think about men all day. They overanalyze his words, body language and actions. They have intrusive thoughts about men all the time. They can sit on the phone with their friends for hours talking about a man and over-analyzing him. Women overanalyze text messages, tweets, likes, shares etc. why do we do this? The answer is “false idols”. When you are so fixated on something, that it distracts you from God, you have a false idol on your hands.
Focusing on the enemy is also a form of idolizing, because you are giving into the belief of two powers, verses one power, God. There is no opposing power.
Do not focus too much on any one person (s) or anything, to the point of distraction, because that which you focus on consistently becomes your idol and false God.
There is only one power, God.
Colossians 3:5 states ” Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence and covetousness, which is idolatry.
